Are you getting the most from your Internet Connection?
on 19/02/2020 00:00:00

According to a recent study by Ofcom, Internet speeds are increasing at a rate of 25% per year whilst at the same time prices are continuing to fall. However, many businesses are unaware of this. We make it our job to keep our customers informed and make sure that you are getting the best deal.

If your Internet connection is already with Net Technical then you can rest assured that your dedicated Account Manager is reviewing this periodically, ensuring that you are on the appropriate tariff, the bandwidth is sufficient for your needs and that you are kept up to date with potential upgrade options.

Conversely, if your connection is not with us, are you getting this level of service from your current provider? Do you regularly review your tariff to ensure you are not paying too much? Has your provider kept you up to date with other options for improving your bandwidth?

If the answer to any of these questions is no, then it really would be worth talking to us to see if we can help reduce your costs, improve the service… or even both!

What are the options?

There are many different types of Internet connectivity available, therefore making the right choice for your business is essential. Speeds are measured in Megabits per second (Mbps) and refer to how quickly you can get information from the Internet to your network (download speed), along with how quickly you can send information from your network to the Internet (upload speed). Download speed is the important factor when receiving large emails or downloading large files whilst upload speed is important when sending large data files, or backing up your data to the Cloud for example.

The most basic type of broadband connection is ADSL or ADSL2+ which is typically delivered over the copper telephone wires in your street. Download speeds vary from site to site but range from as little as 1Mbps to a maximum of 24Mbps with upload speeds ranging from 0.5Mbps to around 1.3Mbps. Monthly fees typically range from £20 to £40 depending on which option you choose.

The next step up is Fibre Broadband which is typically delivered as FTTC (Fibre to the Cabinet) replacing the majority of the copper wires with fibre optic to deliver super-fast Internet. Download speeds vary from 40Mbps to 80Mbps depending on location, with upload speeds of between 10Mbps and 40Mbps. FTTP (Fibre to the Premises) takes this one step further with end-to-end fibre delivering speeds of up to 330Mbps download and 30Mbps upload. Monthly pricing for fibre varies dramatically from as little as £35 per month up to around £100.

At the top end of the scale, where high bandwidth and guaranteed up-time are essential, we have Ethernet connectivity, the most common of which is a Leased Line. This is an Internet circuit which is dedicated to your business and offers guaranteed, uncontended, synchronous download and upload speeds, as well as superior up-time and SLAs. Speeds range from less than 50Mbps up to 10Gbps with monthly costs starting at around £300 depending on bandwidth and location of installation.
